Walking Through Land Mines

Land Minds? What are they? Those pernicious little thoughts, steeped in doubt and fear, which pull us down into the muck of self-doubt and self-criticism in this world. As you walk through this life, there are many land minds. Many events of the mind that you may tiptoe onto, unsuspecting of the spiral they can take you to.

Consider the following E-Mail I received last night (2/3/05) on the Light News website (as is):

“The Lord Jesus Christ is the way the truth and the life, no one gets the the Father except through him. What you are teaching people is wrong and evil.

Repent of your sins and you will be forgiven, but if not you face eternal darkness and seperation from God. Once one hears the truth it is up to him to do with it as he pleases, but remember this on the day of judgement for you will be judged by God All Mighty according to what you have done on earth, and what you know. And i know you know the truth, because i have just shared it with you. Peace be with you, and may God have mercy on your souls.”

It is easy to go into doubt of one’s path when great scripture is quoted as a means of proselytizing others to a belief system. Without thorough searching of one’s own soul, it is easy to consider the dire consequences of leading an unenlightened life of “sin” (karma) resulting in “hell” (suffering in the astral dimension until next reincarnation, and taking unresolved issues forward).

How did I answer this person? I said I would pray for them, as well. Knowing that my own mind does not have all the answers, I must rely on my faith, my inner knowing of Self, to make the God-connection that my physical mind can only imagine. But my feelings are also my direct connection, and when Jesus said “only through me can you get to the Father”, I believe that an evolved man like Jesus would not be talking about his ego self, but about the Christed-principle, that we are the deliverers of our Selves by renouncing illusion and choosing to live in the oneness in which we already exist.

It is easy to quote scripture: it is much more difficult to have a direct relationship with God. I have said: “Religion is easy: Spirituality is hard.” It is also easy for one person to pass judgment on another. We do it all the time; comparing ourselves to others and their spirituality, their material goods, their lives. But the gurus have a saying: “In the end, it is between you and God.”

Having been raised a Catholic, going to parochial school, being an “altar boy” and knowing the mass in Latin and in English, I am well-versed in the Christian view of reality. Over the years, I became a Southern Baptist when I married, tithed a portion of my income, etc. I studied Science of Mind, and became familiar with the works of Ernest Holmes and of those of his brother, Fenwick. I then studied Spirituality and became an ordained Reverend in 1994. I’ve studied the world’s religions and have embraced much of Tibetan Buddhism in my teachings and understanding of how I perceive the universe to work.

In that path is much self-reflection, searching and revelation. In all, I trust my feelings, my God-connection to guide me seamlessly to the most eloquent expression of my life in service to God and my fellow beings on this Earth.

If you are secure in your “belief system,” understand that if you really do live in a oneness, then you are not separate from all Divine Will, Love and Wisdom. You are not separate from what you seek. It is when we claim that oneness, through our inner trust that what we feel is true, is true, that we evolve our character and overcome the illusions that cause suffering.

There are many land minds before us, no matter the path or belief system. The method of trusting in your inner-knower, the kingdom within, is why sages have told us through the millenniums that the only way to know God is with a direct, revelatory experience. You must be bold enough to be vulnerable to trust with your heart what your mind cannot yet comprehend, and that is faith.

Given in love,
Richard Jelusich, Ph.D.
